John G. Bennett
1897-1974
John Godolphin Bennett was a British scientist, mathematician, philosopher and life-long student who sought an integration of scientific research with studies in Asiatic languages and religions. He travelled widely throughout his life and was able to meet many of the world’s spiritual leaders, both well and little known. In 1921 he met G.I. Gurdjieff and P.D. Ouspensky–meetings which were to shape the course of his spiritual development for many years.
During the last four years of his life, Mr Bennett, or J.G.B., as he was sometimes known, directed the Sherborne Academy in Gloucestershire, England, and the talks which are collected together in
Intimations were given at the Beshara Centre at Swyre Farm during those years. He died in 1974, digging in the gardens at Sherborne.
