Meister Eckhart (1260-1327)

Meister Eckhart was a unique spirit among the Christian mystics. He did not write a great deal, but his sermons in Latin and German were memorized and copied down by people who listened to them. This is Meister Eckhart, “from whom God hid nothing”.

Abd al-Karim al-Jili (1306-1403)

His work “Universal Man” is in some ways a systematic version of Ibn ‘Arabi’s writing, but definitely independent. He says, “I will mention of all that only that which happened to me on my own journey to God.”

John G. Bennett (1897-1974)

A British scientist, mathematician, philosopher who, among much else, founded and directed the Sherborne Academy in Gloucestershire, England. A reviewer said of Intimations, issued by Beshara Publications, “These talks must be almost the last that J.G. Bennett gave, and represent his ripest and most mellow wisdom.”

Bulent Rauf (1911-1987)

Born in Istanbul in 1911, Bulent Rauf was educated in both the Ottoman and Western worlds. He devoted many years to the establishing of a body of knowledge based on an understanding of the absolute unity of existence, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Chisholme Institute at the Beshara School of Intensive Esoteric Education in the Scottish Borders.

Dom Sylvester Houédard (1924-1992)

After graduating from Jesus College Oxford, Pierre Houédard entered the Benedictine monastary Prinknash Abbey in 1949. In the 1960s he became well known as a concrete poet, and also, through his interest in other monastic traditions, developed relations with Tibetan lamas newly arrived in Britain.

Diane Cilento (1933-2011)

Queensland-born Diane Cilento may best be known as an actress, but she also played many other roles in her life, including teacher, theatre director, rare tropical fruit grower, wife, mother and documentary film maker. She wrote and directed the film Turning, now made available on DVD by Beshara Publications.

Shane Jagger

Shane was born in Hull in 1960, where, as a young man, he worked in the fish markets. In the late 1970s he found his way to Chisholme House, home of a school of esoteric education in the Scottish Borders. Shane contributed generously to the lives of the people there, as a cook, a bread-maker and as a friend to everyone. In his spare time he has drawn and painted, written and illustrated stories, and more recently, begun to write poetry.

Aaron Cass

Aaron Cass is an actor, musician, composer and co-founder of the Vastearth Orchestra with whom he has produced two albums of classical Middle Eastern poetry set to music. He is currently editor of the Self-Knowledge and Global Responsibility Journal.
